AS IT TURNS out, Ron Jaworski, Bill Bergey, Harold Carmichael and any other Eagles still living in the area now have bragging rights when they see the current Birds.
Especially Louie Giammona.
Giammona, the backup running back to Wilbert Montgomery who still lives and works in the area, turned out to be the star for the 1980 Eagles as they won the championship of the "Best of the Nest" contest that concluded Saturday on WIP (610-AM).
Giammona scored the first touchdown (an 11-yard pass) and the last touchdown (a 60-yard run) as the 1980 Eagles of Dick Vermeil beat the 2004 Eagles of Andy Reid, 25-21.
The 1980 Eagles trailed 21-10 after three quarters.
The championship concluded the five-game "Best of the Nest" tournament that sought to figure out the greatest Eagles team of all time. Each game was played 300 times in a computer simulation on the Web site www.whatifsports.com and the score that was used was the closest to the average of the 300.
