New Orleans VooDoo at Soul
Records: New Orleans 4-6;
When: Tonight, 7:30
Where: Wachovia Center
Line: Soul by 4
Radio: WPEN (950-AM)
All-time series: The VooDoo holds a 2-0 edge, but the teams haven't faced each other since Week 4 in 2005. They faced off in both club's AFL debut in 2004.
About New Orleans: The VooDoo is back, after being forced to postpone last season due to Hurricane Katrina. Quarterback Andy Kelly is still one of the best in the league. For his career he's posted 4,103 completions in 6,542 attempts for 44,656 yards. All are tops in league history. This season, he's thrown for 39 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. He is to the VooDoo what Graziani is to the Soul.
About the Soul: Until the Soul, no team in AFL history had won its first four games then lost six straight. QB Tony Graziani just came off injured reserve (shoulder) and may return to the lineup. He'd be welcomed. The losing streak started when he went down.
Yo, Pauley: Charles Pauley has been a bright spot for the Soul. He ranks fourth in the league in all-purpose yards with 1,721. He's had 100-plus receiving yards in each of the past three games.
Stat watch: With Graziani in the lineup, the team averaged 67 points and allowed 40.7. Without him, they've averaged 44.2 and allowed 54.7.
They don't like Mondays: Bad combination tonight as the Soul is 0-5 this season on Monday and 1-4 when appearing on ESPN2.
Up next: The Soul travels to the 3-7 Austin Wranglers on Sunday. Game time is 4:05. Obviously, if the Soul has any chance to return to the playoffs, there is no room for error.
