Delaware County has arguably the best high school basketball team in Pennsylvania in Chester. But there is no denying Delaware County has the best high school basketball player in the state - and possibly the country - in American Christian's Tyreke Evans.
The slender, 6-6 shooting guard is being sought by Villanova, Memphis, Louisville, Connecticut and Texas, and has begun this season with a torrid start, averaging 35 points a game for the Eagles.
AMERICAN CHRISTIAN, with Evans leading the way, has been ranked by a number of national news outlets as a top team in the country. By the end of the season, Evans could break every scoring record in Southeastern Pennsylvania. He has scored as many as 50 points in a game this season.
Evans is surrounded by a talented group that includes senior guard Jeremiah Kelly, a De Paul signee, and senior Martez Walker, junior Lamont Jones and senior point guard Joshua Spivey; all are Division I-caliber players.
This is GARNET VALLEY'S one season in limbo, before the Jaguars join the Central League next season. The Jags will be looking to rebound from an 8-15 finish last year. Garnet Valley will have some size returning in 6-7 senior center Tim Lang and 6-5 senior combo guard J.J. Rapczynski.
DELCO CHRISTIAN returns Jon DeShields and Jake Godino for coach DaQuan Gibson, whose team went 17-10 last season.
Terrell McCloud, Ryan Naylor and Jamie Grover are back for the CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, which went 10-14 in the Tri-County League last season. Jon Thompson returns as coach for a second season. *
