NEW YORK - After their embattled manager had a much-anticipated meeting with ownership yesterday, the New York Mets fizzled on offense in a 7-3 loss to the Florida Marlins.
Earlier in the day, Willie Randolph sat down with owner Fred Wilpon, his son, Jeff, and GM Omar Minaya.
"Willie's job was never in danger going into this meeting," Minaya said.
But Randolph said he was not told that he would manage the Mets for the rest of the season.

ATLANTA - Mark Teixeira and Atlanta sent Brandon Webb to a different type of streak.
Teixeira drove in four runs as the Braves handed Arizona's Webb his second straight defeat. Webb (9-2) allowed seven runs - four earned - and a season-high 10 hits in 41/3 innings against the Braves. He won his first nine decisions before losing, 3-1, at Florida last Wednesday.
Webb struck out eight, walked three and fell behind, 5-1, in the second.
Manny Acosta (3-1) pitched two hitless innings to win in relief of Jair Jurrjens, who gave up three runs and eight hits in 42/3 innings. Jeff Bennett entered with a 5-3 lead, a man on and two outs in the fifth, and retired Mark Reynolds on a flyout.
Teixeira hit a two-run double in the first and added a two-run single in the second.

WASHINGTON - Pinch-hitter Gabe Kapler singled home the decisive run in the 11th inning as Milwaukee edged Washington.
Prince Fielder led off the 11th with an opposite-field double to left against an exaggerated shift, then moved to third on Corey Hart's sacrifice bunt. After Russell Branyan struck out, Kapler lined the first pitch from Saul Rivera (3-2) to center for an RBI single.
Carlos Villanueva (3-5) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.
Dmitri Young hit a disputed solo homer off Brian Shouse in the eighth to tie the game after Fielder's sacrifice fly had given the Brewers a 3-2 lead in the top of the inning.

CUBS 3, DODGERS 1
CHICAGO - Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez homered to back Ryan Dempster as Chicago defeated Los Angeles.
Lee hit a two-run drive in the first inning off Chad Billingsley (4-6) for his 250th career home run, and Ramirez added a solo homer against Scott Proctor in the eighth.
Dempster (6-2) gave the bullpen some rest after the Cubs combined to use 11 relievers in consecutive extra-inning losses at Pittsburgh. He allowed one run and seven hits in seven innings before Bob Howry and Kerry Wood finished.
Dempster gave up a run-scoring infield single to Juan Pierre in the fifth, then escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, striking out Blake DeWitt on a check swing before retiring Luis Maza on a flyout.
The Dodgers' Andre Ethier singled with out in the ninth, but Wood struck out Russell Martin and Chin-Iung Hu for his 11th save in 15 chances.
Billingsley allowed two runs and four hits in six innings.
