The Atlantic Ten Conference yesterday named Bernadette McGlade as its new commissioner. She replaces Linda Bruno, who resigned in December.
McGlade had served as the associate commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference since 1999. She has spent nearly 30 years in college athletics as a competitor, coach and administrator.
A former basketball player at North Carolina before going on to coach at Georgia Tech, she was the tournament director for the 1993 Women's Final Four. McGlade was a member of the women's tournament selection committee from 1995 to 2000 and joined the ACC in 1997.
McGlade became the fifth full-time commissioner in A-10 history. La Salle, St. Joseph's and Temple compete in the Atlantic Ten in several sports, including men's and women's basketball.
"It is an honor to be selected as the next commissioner of the Atlantic Ten Conference," McGlade said. "The A-10 is a conference rich in academic and athletic tradition, and I am looking forward to this tremendous opportunity."
