Phillies extend Manuel through 2011

LAS VEGAS - The Phillies gave manager Charlie Manuel a guaranteed 3 years Wednesday night.

General manager Ruben Amaro said they picked up Manuel's option for 2010 and added a guaranteed year.

Manuel has the flu and was unavailable for comment.

"He's done a lot of great things for our organization," Amaro said about the World Series champion manager. "He's had a tremendous amount of success.

"His influence is an important piece of our success."
