The Eagles probably won't have a new quarterback for the 2009 season, but they will have a new quarterbacks coach.
A league source told the Daily News that St. Louis will announce the hiring of Pat Shurmur as its offensive coordinator.
Shurmur, 43, has coached Eagles' QBs the past seven seasons. Before that he spent 3 years coaching tight ends. Shurmur worked closely with new Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo, who was an Eagles assistant for 8 years before he left for the Giants 2 years ago.
The Rams apparently are not hiring Eagles secondary coach Sean McDermott as their defensive coordinator. Though McDermott also has a close relationship with Spagnuolo, the Rams are said to be hiring Carolina linebackers coach Ken Flajole, according to a report on Scout.com. The Eagles have lost quite a few potential successors to 67-year-old defensive coordinator Jim Johnson over the past several years - including Spagnuolo - and they are not keen on losing McDermott.
Johnson finished the season in serious pain from a back injury that prevented him from coaching on the sideline the final two playoff games. There are no indications the problem will force him to retire.
Meanwhile, the Eagles announced they are bringing back wide receiver Shaheer McBride, from Chester and Delaware State, along with two of his fellow 2008 practice-squad members, wide receiver Danny Amendola and cornerback Trae Williams. *
