The Flyers last night nullified Wednesday's trade with the San Jose Sharks in which they acquired defenseman Kyle McLaren for a sixth-round draft pick in 2009.

McLaren did not pass his physical because of a hand injury suffered in an AHL game, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren.

McLaren, 31, was to be assigned to the AHL's Phantoms.

This season, McLaren had six assists and 17 penalty minutes in 17 games with San Jose's AHL affiliate, the Worcester Sharks. In 719 career NHL games with San Jose and the Boston Bruins over 12 seasons, the 6-foot-4, 235-pounder had 46 goals and 161 assists and 671 penalty minutes.

The Flyers had hoped he would give them depth if they needed to recall a defenseman for the playoffs.
