NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Ivan Nova gave up just five hits in eight innings last night to lead the Trenton Thunder past the New Britain Rock Cats, 5-1, in the Eastern League.

Nova, a righthander from the Dominican Republic, struck out six to win his second consecutive decision and improve to 4-3.

Trenton got solo homers from Chris Malec in the first and Justin Snyder in the ninth.

Amaury Sanit struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his fourth save.

BUFFALO - Kyle Kendrick allowed only three runs despite giving up nine hits in six innings as the IronPigs beat the Bisons in the International League.

Paul Hoover had three hits, a home run, and a pair of RBIs for the IronPigs.

Reading. The Phillies' Eastern League game at Akron was suspended because of rain after three innings with the Aeros leading, 1-0. The game will resume at 10:30 this morning.
