FORT WORTH, Texas - Steve Stricker shot his second straight 63 yesterday, giving him a 14-under 126 total that set records for 36 holes and for any consecutive rounds at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial Country Club yet was barely enough to top a leaderboard filled with players taking advantage of light wind and pillow-soft greens.
Tim Clark, Vijah Singh and Sean O'Hair shot 64s and were lined up right behind Stricker. Clark was one shot back, Singh one more and O'Hair yet another.
"The weather, for two days in a row - well, all week since we've been here - has been unbelievable," Stricker said.
Clark's two-round total of 127 matched the previous best for back-to-back rounds set by Justin Leonard in 2003.
Masters runner-up Chad Campbell withdrew from the tournament with a calf injury after playing a shot around the 17th green yesterday three weeks before the next major - the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black which starts June 18.
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - Newcomer Olin Browne, who turned 50 last week and is playing his first tournament on the Champions Tour, shot a 4-under 67 at Glen Oaks Country Club to join Iowa native Lonnie Nielsen and Bruce Vaughan atop the leaderboard after the opening round of the Principal Charity Classic.
ASH, England - Jeev Milkha Singh of India and Michael Lorenzo-Vera of France shot 5-under 69s to share the second-round lead of the European Open at 8-under 136 at the London Club.
The pair were a stroke ahead of Anthony Wall of England (69) and Christian Cevaer of France (70).
