The Colorado Avalanche hired Joe Sacco as their head coach yesterday, a day after firing Tony Granato and shaking up their front office.
The 40-year-old Sacco has been with the organization for the past four seasons. He also was an assistant coach for the team's two previous AHL affiliates, in Lowell and Albany.
A former NHL forward, Sacco appeared in 738 games over a 13-year career that included stints with Toronto, Anaheim, the New York Islanders, Washington and the Flyers, where he played the final season of his career, 2002-03.
Boston Bruins forward David Krejci's hip surgery was a success. The Bruins said the surgery took place in New York. Krejci will need four to six months to recover.
