The Phillies are hoping Ryan Howard will be in the lineup Tuesday night when the club begins a nine-game road trip against the Rays in Tampa.
The Phillies slugger sat out Sunday's 2-1 loss to Baltimore after he was admitted to Mercy Suburgan Hospital earlier in the day. Howard this morning was re-evaluated by Dr. Marc Harwood, the club physician, and was diagnosed with acute sinusitis.
"After reviewing previous tests and evaluating him, Dr. Harwood has diagnosed him with acute sinusitis," Phillies general manager Rubern Amaro Jr. said in a statement. "His fever is gone and he will rest at home today. If he feels better, Ryan will travel tomorrow to Tampa Bay to rejoin the team. We are hopeful he will be able to play tomorrow as well."
The Phillies depart for Tampa Bay following tonight's Phillies Phestival at Citizens Bank Park.
