Despite reports this week that the Flyers were both in and out of consideration for participation in the NHL's Winter Classic in Boston at Fenway Park on New Year's Day, the NHL has not made a decision.
According to league spokesman Frank Brown, the Flyers are among the teams still being considered to play the Bruins in Boston, and that the decision will be announced in mid-July.
"We'll announce the schedule on July 15 and then the mystery will be solved," Brown said last night.
There have been two Winter Classic games, and both provided the highest-rated regular-season games for NBC. Last year, the Red Wings played the Blackhawks in Wrigley Field. The first Winter Classic matched the Penguins and the Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo. *
