The Eagles are playing well and the Phils just made a blockbuster deal. (Maybe you heard.) Both are making news and noise, and the fans, on the whole, seem to be (relatively) happy with the town's football and baseball teams at the moment.

Not so with the winter sports clubs. The Sixers have the third-worst record in the NBA. Only Minnesota and New Jersey have fewer wins. Meanwhile, people had high hopes for the Flyers this season but they've been underwhelming at best. They got crushed by the Penguins the other night and are now tied with several teams for the second-fewest points in the NHL.

The Sixers and Flyers have been abject disappointments this year, but which one has the better shot to salvage the season?

Who cares? Roy Halladay is coming to town. It's like Christmas has come early, even if it is going to cost the Phillies something like $60 million. And across the street, the Eagles have won four straight and are talking about big things - like going to Miami in February. Come on, John. Do you have to focus on the negative? Can't you be happy?

I'd say the Flyers have the best chance to salvage something this season, but only if Ray Emery gets healthy or they go out and get a top-of-the-line goaltender. The Flyers aren't a bad team. They've just played badly. The Sixers are a truly bad team.

Oh, I'm happy (ish), Ashley. But when everyone else zigs, Page 2 zags. You really should get with the program.

I'll go Flyers as well, but only because the Sixers are beyond terrible. When you're looking up at the Knicks in your division it's time to start making those off-season golf plans.

It will be interesting to see if Allen Iverson and Elton Brand finish the season on the roster. I could envision, for different reasons, either or both not making it to April.

Back to the Flyers for a moment. Isn't it time to stop counting on Danny Briere and Simon Gagne to be healthy? I like both guys immensely, but this has gotten tiresome.
