A second-half run by Villanova trumped a season-high 19 point effort from La Salle's Ashley Gale as the Wildcats celebrated a 44-41 win in women's basketball at the Tom Gola Arena yesterday.

Maria Getty led Villanova (8-2) with 15 points. The win gave the Wildcats a perfect 4-0 record in Big 5 play this year and 'Nova's first outright Big 5 title since the 2003-04 season, ending Temple's reign of five straight.

La Salle (0-1 Big 5, 3-8 overall) was down by just three at the half, but an 8-0 run and just 35 percent shooting in the second half allowed Villanova to prevail.

The Wildcats return to action Monday night when they host San Fransisco in the opening round of their holiday classic at 7:30, while La Salle is off until Tuesday when it opens with Holy Cross in the first round of Saint Joseph's Hawk Holiday Classic at 4 p.m.

At Saint Joseph's, a season-high eight three-pointers led the Hawks to a 78-62 win over Old Dominion.

Saint Joseph's will host Brown in the opening game of the Hawk Holiday Classic, Monday at 2 p.m.
