Giants starting left guard Rich Seubert will be sidelined indefinitely with a broken left hand, coach Tom Coughlin said yesterday. The team will find out how long Seubert will be out when he is examined today.

Seubert is the second offensive lineman to go down, joining center Shaun O'Hara, who has been sidelined since Monday with swelling in his left ankle. Coughlin said O'Hara is due back Monday, along with safety Kenny Phillips, who missed most of last season with a major knee injury.

Also, receiver Steve Smith, who caught a team-record 107 passes last season, injured his groin making a routine move during practice. He said he doesn't think the injury is serious.

* Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears will miss the rest of training camp and possibly the start of the regular season with a sprained left knee. Spears is expected to be out 4-6 weeks after getting hurt late in Thursday's second practice.

* NFL referee Bill Leavy acknowledged that he made two, unspecified mistakes during Seattle's 2006 Super Bowl loss to Pittsburgh.

* Rex Ryan's Super Bowl guarantee is now in writing. The Jets coach was asked to sign his team's logo sticker on the back of ESPN's tour bus at training camp Thursday. Instead of just signing his name, the brash Ryan wrote: "Soon to be Champs." *
