A day after its boys team suffered a 1-0 defeat, Archbishop Wood's girls soccer team suffered the same fate - by the same result.

Danielle Hume scored in the 65th minute on Saturday to give Peters Township claim to the PIAA Class AAA state title after she placed a Wood rebound in the 18-yard box past keeper Deanna Messner. Messner posted two saves on the night and was the catalyst for a Wood squad that boasted a 23-game win streak (23-2) this season. But defensively, Peters Township showed prowess, particularly in the second half to silence Wood's offense.

"I couldn't have asked for more from my girls," said Wood coach Bill Cappo. "They got the follow-up and that happens sometimes. We got beat by a very good team."
