The Boston Breakers battled back to earn a 1-1 tie with the Independence in a Women's Professional Soccer Match Sunday at Harvard Stadium in Allston, Mass.

Independence striker Tasha Kai scored her second goal of the season in the 44th minute, turning Breakers defender Amy LePeilbet at the top of the box and beating the diving keeper Alyssa Naeher.

Forward Lauren Cheney equalized for Boston (2-4-1) in the 48th minute, heading in the rebound after Independence keeper Nicole Barnhart tipped midfielder Keelin Winters' header at the goal line. The score was Cheney's first of the year and first since a goal against the Independence in the WPS Super Semifinal on Sept. 23, 2010.

Boston's best chance for the win came in the 72d minute on a shot from six yards out by midfielder Leslie Osborne, with Barnhart making an off-balance save.

The Independence (2-1-2) next face Brazilian superstar Marta and the Western New York Flash at Widener University's Leslie Quick Stadium this Sunday at 6 p.m.
