COLLEGES Trustees at Youngstown State University voted Friday to offer the president's job to former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, who started his college coaching career there. Tressel has been an administrator at the University of Akron for two years.
Tressel recently was a finalist for, but was not chosen to be, president at the University of Akron, where he is executive vice president for student success. He went to Akron after being forced out at Ohio State following a scandal in which players sold memorabilia for cash and tattoos, leading to an investigation that resulted in sanctions against the team and Tressel.
BOXING Heavyweights Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola weighed in ahead of Saturday night's 12-round bout for the vacant World Boxing Council title. Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 knockouts) measured 239.5 pounds, Arreola (36-3-0, 31 KOs) was 239.
