Kevin Klein, bloodied earlier by a high stick to the ear, ripped in a slap shot 3 minutes, 45 seconds into overtime to give the host New York Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night.
Klein, a defenseman showing off his offensive skills recently, scored for the second straight game and for the sixth time this season. He rescued the Rangers, who blew a 3-1 lead late in the third period when Pittsburgh scored twice in 24 seconds to tie it.
Devils 2, Hurricanes 1 - Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist in his 1,500th NHL game, and visiting New Jersey defeated Carolina. Devils goalie Cory Schneider made 39 saves, including 17 in the third period.
Blues 4, Panthers 2 - Martin Brodeur earned his 690th career win as host St. Louis beat Florida.
The NHL suspended Winnipeg forward Evander Kane for two games for boarding Anaheim defenseman Clayton Stoner during the Jets' 4-3 loss on Sunday.
He is eligible to return for another home game against the Ducks on Saturday.
Ottawa fires MacLean
Paul MacLean was fired as coach of the Ottawa Senators, less than 18 months since he was the NHL's coach of the year.
The coaching dismissal was the first in the NHL this season and comes with the team off to an 11-11-5 start. Assistant Dave Cameron is the new coach, general manager Bryan Murray said at a news conference.
