Steve & Mia: Picky, picky!

Q: I'm a straight man in my early 20s and having trouble connecting with women. I had no problems in college, but the women I've met since just haven't been right for me. I want someone who shares my interests but isn't clingy or full of drama. I've tried online dating, but everybody lies. It's been a waste of time. I'm not much of a joiner, so don't suggest a club or yoga class. There's no one at work who interests me. Also, I can't stand the pickup bar scene. Any suggestions?

Steve: Aren't you the picky one! No club, no class, no bar, no computer, no clingy, no drama. What does that leave? Kidnapping? If you want someone who shares your interests, then pursue those interests. You'll find all sorts of events, exhibits, lectures, etc. on any number of topics. The more of these you attend, the better your chances.

Mia: Here's my suggestion: Either widen your scope and knock off being so particular, or stop actively looking for a while. Sometimes the best things come along when you're not searching for them.

Q: Any ideas on how I can tastefully (if possible) ask my girlfriend to get a Brazilian or French wax? Not that there's a big problem or anything, but I would find it so much hotter. But I think she's a little self-conscious about her body image, so I need to be tactful. Also, to any women wondering what to get their BFs/husbands for their birthday, here you go. Many guys don't care about presents anyway.

Mia: There are times when a man would do well to keep his mouth shut. This is one of those times. Requesting that your woman keep it tidy down under is one thing, but requesting that she wax all or most everything off is just a tad shallow at best and rather offensive at worst. If this is really that important to you, I'd suggest re-evaluating your priorities. Has she ever asked you to wax it all off? I doubt it. Why should there be a double standard?

Steve: Guys don't care about presents? C'mon, man, don't ruin it for all of us. As for shaving, rather than requesting it, just ask what she thinks about it as a trend. If she doesn't like it, say nothing more.
