Plans to increase four miles of Route 202 to three lanes in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin Townships have moved closer to construction, the state Department of Transportation said Thursday.

PennDot said a New Jersey company submitted an apparent low bid of $105,415,093 for reconstruction and widening from just north of the Route 401 interchange to just south of the Swedesford Road interchange, the release said. Richard E. Pierson Construction Co. of Woodstown submitted the bid, which will be evaluated to ensure it conforms to federal and state specifications, the release said.

Construction is to start in March and finish in June 2014, the department said. During the project, which will include replacing bridges and adding sound barriers, two lanes will remain open in each direction during the day with some overnight lane closures, PennDot said. - Kathleen Brady Shea
