Man is found dead inside burned warehouse

A 70-year-old man was found dead inside a vacant two-story warehouse that caught fire Monday afternoon in Southwest Philadelphia, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire was reported at 1:34 p.m. in the 1500 block of South 49th Street, said Executive Fire Chief Daniel A. Williams. The fire was placed under control at 2:16.

The man, whose name was not available, was found dead inside the two-story building and may have been a squatter, Williams said. The causes of his death and of the fire are under investigation. - Robert Moran
