Close to $10,000 in gift cards were purchased this month at a Voorhees mall with fraudulent credit cards, authorities said.
Police say they believe five people bought 39 gift cards, ranging from $250 to $300 each, from the Voorhees Town Center between Dec. 4 and 14, said Voorhees Township Police Detective Dennis Ober.
Two mall employees realized they had sold thousands of dollars in gift cards to the same person on different days and called American Express, Ober said.
Stolen numbers from at least eight victims - most of whom likely had stayed at a hotel in Oakland, Calif. - were used on replicated cards, Ober said. The victims are from California, Virginia, and Oklahoma. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Ober at 856-882-1108. - Darran Simon
