A 42-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a strip mall in the city's Hunting Park section, police said.

The shooting occurred at Broad Street and Hunting Park Avenue shortly after 4 p.m., said Chief Inspector Scott Small. The victim, who was shot once in the chest, was taken by private automobile to Temple University Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 5:37.

Police found three shell casings, a clear bag of pills, and two hats in the parking lot, Small said. Numerous surveillance cameras operating outside and inside nearby businesses were being reviewed. "We're pretty confident the cameras recorded something that will help the investigation," Small said, who added that the pills might indicate that a drug deal had gone bad. - Robert Moran
