A Delaware County man is facing child sex-abuse charges for allegedly downloading pornographic images of children.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday that 30-year-old Edward Curran surrendered to authorities to face 25 counts of sexual abuse of children and criminal use of a communications facility.

The probe into the East Lansdowne man began in July, when investigators detected a computer at what was later determined to be Curran's IP address trying to download BitTorrent files, according to court documents.

The files depicted explicit images of young girls in suggestive poses, the documents said.

When detectives executed a search warrant at his home in September, he admitted to using BitTorrent to search for pornography but denied using the file-sharing tool to seek out child porn. He told the investigators he used search terms like "hot teen" and "young" when searching for pornography, but assumed whatever photographs he found would be legal, court documents said.

A forensic examination of his computer turned up more than 25 images of child pornography, officials said.
