The Amber Alert hunt for an abducted 3-year-old Delaware girl ended Tuesday evening afer the girl and her father were located safely in Spencer, Mass., police said.

Earlier in the day, the girl's mother, Dawn Burkus, appealed for the child's father to return their daughter home. She said on Tuesday evening that today was her birthday and she prayed to God that her daughter would be returned to her safely.

"And [God] gave me the best birthday present ever," she said.

Burkus appealed earlier Tuesday to Michael Trotta, 43, her ex-boyfriend and father of their daughter, Elinor Trotta, to bring their daughter back to Delaware.

Police said Michael Trotta assaulted Burkus and took Elinor from her home on the 800 block of East Basin Road in New Castle shortly after 6:45 p.m. Monday. Police said he took the girl to Massachusetts because he has family ties to the area.

Trotta was arrested and taken into police custody shortly after the two were located.

An arrest warrant was issued for Trotta in connection with another alleged assault on Elinor's mother on Feb. 15, police said. He was also being sought on reckless endangerment and carjacking charges in the Monday abduction.
