Police armed with a description quickly arrested a 29-year-old man as a suspect in a tire-slashing spree early Monday on a block in South Philadelphia.
Officers received the initial call about 1:15 a.m. that a white male wearing a black T-shirt and khaki-colored shorts with a dark beard was observed slashing car tires on the 1000 block of Ellsworth Street.
A short time later, an officer spotted a man fitting the description not far away at South Broad and Carpenter Streets, police said.
The officer saw the metallic end of a knife in the man's hand and took him into custody without incident, police said, adding the witness later identified the suspect.
His name will be released once he processed, police said.
Police said they counted nine cars with tires slashed - three Hondas, a Jaguar, a Ford, a Chrysler, a Dodge, a Mazda and a Nissan.
