A 71-year-old man has been charged with the shooting death of a 73-year-old man in Montgomery County shortly before Christmas, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Leroy Clark was charged with first-degree murder and related offenses in the fatal shooting of Robert Duncan on Dec. 23 in Abington Township. Duncan was killed on the porch of his home about a mile from Willow Grove Park mall.

Clark fled in a Dodge Caravan but was stopped by Abington police and ordered to surrender, prosecutors said. Clark instead shot himself, causing gunshot wounds to his mouth and chest.

He was hospitalized at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health, then transferred to the Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, where he was treated until this month.

Clark was arrested Monday and arraigned before District Judge John D. Kessler. He was denied bail and was being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
