About 1,000 Peco Energy Company customers lost power in the West Philadelphia and Overbrook neighborhoods for about an hour Saturday after an underground Peco power cable was damaged, a spokesman for the utility said.
Peco crews went to investigate about 11:45 a.m., spokesman Ben Armstrong said. It is not yet clear what caused the damage, he said.
A police spokeswoman said there was a report of a manhole cover blowing off at the intersection of 63rd and Race Streets at about that time. No one was injured.
Armstrong said Peco workers were able to find the damaged cable and restored power to the 1,082 customers affected at about 12:40 p.m. He said he did not know if a manhole cover had dislodged or not.
SEPTA's Route 31 bus was detoured at 63rd and Vine Streets because of the incident.
