The animal welfare group Justice Rescue, of Woodlyn, is offering a $1,000 reward for information after the charred remains of two dogs were found in a plastic container set afire in a Chester City alley.

Authorities said the animals, which appeared to be mixed-breed pit bulls, were found behind a garage at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday.

Officials said the dogs were also inside a tote and may already have been dead when they were placed in the bag and set afire. Necropsies are planned to determine the cause of death.
