A woman from Wilkes-Barre, Pa., has been charged in the murder of a 26-year-old woman whose handcuffed body was found last week in Fairmount Park, police said Monday.

Shavon Armstrong, a.k.a. Palliadium Smith, turned herself in at police headquarters on Friday.

Police said Armstrong was 39. Court records put her age at 30. She was charged with murder, kidnapping, robbery, and related offenses in the death of Chester resident Toy Charda Bryant.

Bryant's body was found June 14 near the Mann Center for the Performing Arts. She had been stabbed and shot in the back of the head.

Homicide Capt. James Clark said Bryant had defensive wounds on her hands. "I believe she was in a fight for her life," Clark said. "Unfortunately, she lost."

Investigators believe her body was dumped in the park the night before. She was discovered face-down about 10 feet from the road by a couple driving along the 5300 block of Georges Hill Drive.
