A 28-year-old Philadelphia man is in critical condition Monday after he was shot nine times early Sunday in the 200 block of Kent Street in Upper Darby Township in an incident in which more than 20 shots were fired, police said.
Police said a suspect, described as armed and dangerous, has been identified from surveillance video.
At a news conference, Upper Darby police released video footage Monday morning of the suspect, including a segment in which the suspect is following the victim and a female friend as they were leaving a hookah bar around 2:15 a.m., just minutes before the shooting.
The victim, who police did not identify, remained at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, said Upper Darby Police superintendent Michael Chitwood.
A female friend of the victim said the suspect was at both Rudy's Tavern and Ntyce Hookah on Sunday night, Chitwood said.
More than 20 shots were fired around 2:20 a.m. Sunday morning at the 200 block of Kent Street, where, the woman told police, she and the victim were walking back to a car.
Surveillance videos showed the suspect outside of Rudy's Tavern about 12:30 a.m. Sunday and then later at the hookah bar.
Chitwood said he had concerns about both late-night establishments. "You ain't going to catch me at Rudy's unless I'm raiding the place," he said. He added that he plans to investigate the legality of the hookah bar's BYOB policy.
"I don't have any problem closing it down, I just have to figure out how to do it," Chitwood said.
