D.A. will not seek death penalty against Abu-Jamal

For the first time since he was sentenced in 1983, Mumia Abu-Jamal no longer faces being put to death. Recognizing that continuing to seek execution would only mean decades more of appeals - and a new public forum for the former Black Panther and onetime radio reporter - Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams said Wednesday he would not seek a new death-penalty hearing for the convicted killer of Officer Daniel Faulkner.
