Cool weekend ahead in Philadelphia; heat returns next week
Philadelphians can expect a few more days of cool temperatures -- but the August heat is expected to be back by the middle of next week.
The National Weather Service is calling for a high temperature of 82 degrees Saturday and 78 degrees Sunday.
Those forecasts are low for August: Sunday's predicted high would be 7 degrees below normal.
The work week is also slated to start off cool, with an expected high of 82 degrees Monday.
But the summer heat isn't over quite yet: Forecasters say temperatures in the area will rise into the high 80s next week.
The weather service says to expect highs of 85 on Tuesday, 87 on Wednesday and 88 on Thursday.
That will be a stark change from the unseasonably low temperatures recorded in Philadelphia over the past days.
Thursday's high reached just 78 degrees, 8 degrees below average for the date. And on Wednesday, the mercury hit only 76 degrees, 10 below normal.
The overnight low of 58 degrees on Wednesday night into Thursday morning was the lowest temperature recorded at Philadelphia International Airport since June 14, which had a low of 57 degrees, and the first time the mercury dropped into the 50s since June 15's low of 59.
