A North Jersey man drowned early Saturday in Medford's Taunton Lake, police said.
Jeremy Chan, 23, of Mountain Lakes, Morris County, was canoeing with another man when the craft capsized, Medford Police Chief Anthony Canale said.
One man swam to shore and went to a house on South Wendover Drive, where he alerted friends. They called police around 2:15 a.m. and returned to the lake to search for Chan. Police and Medford's marine unit met them there, police said.
A state police helicopter spotted Chan's body, and a dive team from the Fire Department recovered it from the lake around 3:20 a.m.
Emergency personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but Chan was pronounced dead at Virtua Marlton. The investigation continues, police said.
