WYNCOTE The One Man March for McDevitt just might be the most pedestrian effort ever. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday and going through Sunday, the president of Bishop McDevitt High School will walk 40 miles to raise money for the Wyncote school.

Sponsored by the mile and the day, Stephen Finley will perambulate through parts of Roslyn, Jenkintown, Ardsley and Glenside - communities that have a lot of Bishop McDevitt alumni.

Discussions about raising money began after a winter during which the school spent more money than planned on plowing snow and tending damaged trees, said Finley, a 1969 graduate. School officials liked the idea of holding a different sort of fund-raiser.

The event aims to collect $30,000, with $19,100 already in the bank. Money will be used for academic programs, tuition aid, scholarships, athletics, and other activities.

More information on the walk is available at www.mcdevitths.org.
