Widener receives engineering grant

CHESTER Widener University School of Engineering received a $150,000 grant from the George I. Alden Trust, officials announced.

The grant is the largest gift the School of Engineering has received from the trust to date. It will be used to to upgrade and replace electrical engineering laboratory equipment and buy chemical engineering laboratory equipment for the 2014-15 school year. The equipment will include generators, data acquisition software, and a high performance liquid chromatograph for the chemical engineering lab.

George I. Alden, an inventor who taught mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, established the grant in 1912.
