Two Philadelphia police officers responding to a shooting at Second Street and Black Horse Alley in Old City early Saturday opened fire on a black Cadillac as it came toward them, authorities said.

After the initial shooting about 2 a.m., the Cadillac, with three men inside, fled. Police said the two officers saw it turn the wrong way onto Chestnut Street and drive onto the sidewalk.

That's when the officers opened fire on the vehicle, police said. The car crashed into a cyclone fence at a construction zone and came to rest at the edge of deep crater, police said.

None of the three male occupants was struck by gunfire. The driver, whose name and age were not released, was taken into custody. His companions, also unidentified, were described as 24 and 30 years old, police said.

A 28-year-old man who was shot at Second Street and Black Horse was listed in stable condition at Hahnemann University Hospital, police said.

The officers involved were placed on administrative duty and Internal Affairs is investigating, police said.
