Driver evading police goes wrong way on I-95, injures motorist in crash

A driver trying to evade a police pursuit just before midnight Saturday drove south on northbound I-95 near Philadelphia International Airport, crashed into another car, injuring its driver, then fled into the woods.

Pennsylvania State Police said the car was driving in the proper direction when a trooper tried to pull it over on speeding and other violations.

The driver did not stop. A pursuit ensued, but the trooper ended it "in the interest of public safety" when the fleeing driver entered the airport ramp system leading to passenger pickup areas near the terminals, police patrol supervisor Edmund Homa said.

Shortly after, the driver went the wrong way on I-95, crashing his car early Sunday. Police could not find the driver after he fled.

Although no arrest has been made, an officer said paperwork in the car linked it to a property in Delaware County.

Homa had no update on the condition of the driver injured in the crash, whom authorities declined to identify.
