Police fatally shoot man in Cumberland County

The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office was investigating the fatal shooting Friday afternoon of a man by police in Bridgeton.

The shooting happened about 4 p.m. in the area of South and North Fremont Avenues. The man, who name was withheld pending positive identification, was running from police when at least one officer fired at him, officials said. A firearm was found near his body.

No other details were immediately available.

The New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit was assisting with the investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact Sgt. Detective Ronald Henry at 609-381-2047.
