SCRANTON - A black bear is headed back to the woods after it had to be removed from the roof of a mall. The 400-pound male bear apparently climbed onto the roof of Viewmont Mall after searching for food in a trash bin early Friday.
Scranton police say they responded to a report of the bear's going through the trash around 2:15 a.m. When they put a spotlight on it, the bear climbed up a fence to the roof and started roaming around atop the mall.
Pennsylvania Game Commission officers climbed onto the roof and tranquilized the bear. It was lowered to the ground by a forklift. Officials planned to release the bear onto state game lands in Monroe County. - AP
