Santorum: The words of a true believer

PRESIDENT Santorum? Maybe not, if voters ponder some of the former senator's public remarks over the years. For example: * "In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality. That's not to pick on homosexuality. It's not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be." - April 23, 2003.

PRESIDENT Santorum?

Maybe not, if voters ponder some of the former senator's public remarks over the years. For example:

* "In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality. That's not to pick on homosexuality. It's not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be." - April 23, 2003.

* "Priests, like all of us, are affected by culture. When the culture is sick, every element in it becomes infected. While it is no excuse for this scandal, it is no surprise that Boston, a seat of academic, political and cultural liberalism in America, lies at the center of the storm." - July 12, 2002.

* "Respect for stay-at-home mothers has been poisoned by a toxic combination of the village elders' war on the traditional family and radical feminism's misogynistic crusade to make working outside the home the only marker of social value and self-respect."

- 2005 book, It Takes a Family

* "I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say, 'We're going to decide who are people and who are not people.' "

- Jan. 19, 2011, on President Obama and abortion.

* "If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age? There is no one else to go after other than the United States." - August 2008

* "To say that people of faith have no role in the public square? You bet that makes you throw up."

- Sunday, on John F. Kennedy's 1960 speech on separation of church and state.
