"Incumbents, as usual, have upper hand"

(

April 20

):

This article implied that Carol Ann Campbell is not working as hard as the other new members of City Council, and not as active as her two challengers.

Nothing could be further from the truth! For more than 40 years, as a community activist, committeewoman and ward leader, Councilwoman Campbell has been in the forefront of constituent services.

Whether working on behalf of senior citizens or ensuring that neighborhood playgounds are safe havens for children, Councilwoman Campbell has always been one of the most diligent public servants in the city.

With regard to her campaign, you contend that her opponents are more active in knocking on doors of potential voters. I beg to differ. In addition to attending dozens of community meetings and tending to the business of her constituency, Councilwoman Campbell is stomping around her district addressing the most serious concerns of all Philadelphians - crime and school safety.

She has traveled the district with Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson, answering the call of residents and business leaders. And during the nor'easter that drenched the area, Councilwoman Campbell was actively working the phones talking to other elected officials and engineers to minimize potential flood damage.
