The ninth annual ABC Games begin today at Please Touch Museum, encouraging children to have an interest in sportsmanship, physical fitness and fun.
Presented by US Airways, the games run through June 28. The month of learning through sporty play will fill the museum's Rainforest gallery. New this year is a nature-inspired obstacle course that will weave its way through the gallery with a rock-climbing wall and various play opportunities that test strength, coordination, and fine- and gross-motor skills.
The annual games, which started in 2002 as the museum's kid-friendly version of Philadelphia's "X Games," will begin at 10 a.m. today with a parade and opening ceremony with Nancy D. Kolb, Please Touch president and CEO; the Philadelphia Eagles Pep Band; and the Phillie Phanatic. The opening ceremony will offer the singing of the new "ABC Games Anthem," and the lighting of the "ABC Games Flame."
It's a dance party
The Raggs Live Dance Party comes to Sesame Place's Big Bird Theater on Saturday and Sunday.
The party features five canine members of the Raggs Band (Raggs, Trilby, Pido, B. Max and Razzles) from the new preschool PBS television series Raggs. The band will teach the audience its special two-step movement from a favorite song. B. Max's Dance-O-Meter, a giant interactive machine with an appetite, rates the dances (all winners, of course!) and a tie is broken when the pups combine the dances into one super, mega-dance. Master of ceremonies Roadie keeps things moving along. Concerts will be held at noon, 3 and 5 p.m.
This weekend is also Pet Weekend, with park visitors receiving $10 off single-day admission when showing a photo of their pet at any ticket window.
Up, up and away
The opening reception of the Michener Art Museum's annual June Balloon Children's Gallery Exhibition will be at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The exhibition will showcase artwork created by students from the museum's classes and workshops, the Art on the Move program, and Michener Museum-sponsored art enrichment programs at Pine Run Elementary School and Palisades Middle School. There will be refreshments, art activities and entertainment.
