Four Temple starters scored in double figures, and the Owls opened American Athletic Conference play with a 63-56 win at Memphis on Sunday. The victory was Temple's fourth consecutive win in a conference opener.
During a run just before halftime, Temple (7-4) hit four consecutive three-pointers, including back-to-back treys by Tyonna Williams, to build a nine-point lead at the break.
Memphis (7-6, 0-1) cut Temple's lead to 55-54 with 1 minute, 33 seconds remaining, but four made free throws by Williams down the stretch sealed the win.
Penn State 70, Hartford 56 - Former Germantown Academy star Maggie Lucas scored 18 points, and the No. 15 Nittany Lions (9-3) held off the visiting Hawks (3-10).
St. Joseph's 76, Florida Gulf Coast 64 - Senior Erin Shields (Archbishop Carroll) scored 17, and the Hawks (10-2) put away the host Eagles (6-6).
Delaware Valley 68, Trinity 66 - In Daytona Beach, Fla., the Aggies (7-3) rallied from an 11-point, second-half deficit and then held on for their fifth straight victory, over the Bantams (4-5) in the 2013 Land of Magic Classic. Brittany Wood (Archbishop Ryan) led DelVal with 22 points.
