Ex-Birds QB King Hill dies at 75

Former Eagles quarterback King Hill, 75, who after an all-American career at Rice spent 12 years in the NFL, mostly as a backup, died Saturday of cancer, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Mr. Hill, who was known as a triple threat, had two interceptions playing safety, scored the tying touchdown, and kicked the winning extra point when Rice ended No. 1 Alabama's 19-game winning streak with a 7-6 victory Nov. 16, 1957.

The Chicago Cardinals drafted him No. 1 overall in 1958, and he was acquired by the Eagles in 1961. Mr. Hill joined the Minnesota Vikings early in the 1968 season and finished his career as a punter the following year with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Afterward, he was an assistant coach for 17 seasons.
