Eagles raise ticket prices

The Eagles moved up three spots Thursday, but unfortunately for fans it was in ticket prices and not the NFL draft.

The Eagles will raise ticket prices by an average of $8 in 2013, their first season under new coach Chip Kelly. It is their first increase in season-ticket prices since 2009.

Tickets will range from $75 to $105, up from $70 to $95 last season. The average cost will be about $93 - a 9.45 percent increase over last season.

The Eagles are No. 11 in the NFL in ticket prices. They were 14th last season.

Some fans expressed displeasure on Twitter, particularly about an increase coming after the worst Eagles season (4-12) in more than a decade. In June, reports surfaced that the Eagles plan to renovate Lincoln Financial Field. The project would cost $60 million to $100 million, according to the SportsBusiness Journal.

The Eagles sent invoices Thursday to season-ticket holders with a letter from team president Don Smolenski outlining the increase.

"We have made some dramatic changes this offseason, including the hiring of Coach Chip Kelly," Smolenski wrote. "But one thing that hasn't changed - and Coach Kelly appreciates this - is that the passion [the fans] display and the support [the fans] provide with [their] loyalty to [the] Eagles makes this a special place to play football."

The New York Jets had the highest average ticket price in the NFL last season at $117.94, according to the Team Marketing Report's Fan Cost Index. The New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, both NFC East rivals of the Eagles, also were in the top five. The Eagles have the lowest ticket prices in the NFC East. The Washington Redskins increased their general admission prices, too, on Thursday and have raised the parking fee to $40. The Eagles charge $25.

According to Forbes, the Eagles' franchise value was $1.26 billion in 2012, with revenues of $296 million.

The Phillies introduced a new pricing plan for 2013 that included price increases for some games and decreases for others. Their tickets range from $13 to $145.

The Flyers' average ticket price reportedly increased $6 this season. Listed prices range from $39 to $200 this season.

The 76ers increased the price for select games this season. They also raised the price of courtside seats, seats inside the dashers, and certain season tickets in the lower bowl. The listed seats range from $45 to $119.
