The Eagles are practicing Monday without defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, running back Wendell Smallwood, and wide receiver Marcus Johnson. Top wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is practicing for the second consecutive day.

Cox, the team's top defensive player, has a veteran's day off. There is no injury to note for his absence.

Smallwood and Johnson have hamstring injuries. Both players have had strong training camps to date, with Smallwood appearing to be an improved running back in his second season and Johnson making a convincing bid to earn a roster spot. The Eagles will practice again Tuesday for the final full session before Thursday's preseason opener, so their injury status will be closely monitored.

Quarterback Nick Foles (elbow), tight end Anthony Denham (calf), tight end Adam Zaruba (concussion), wide receiver Paul Turner (shoulder), and offensive lineman Josh Andrews (hand) are still out.

It was a positive development for the Eagles to see Jeffery on the practice field again Monday. He returned Sunday after missing a week with a shoulder injury. Linebacker Mychal Kendricks also practiced after returning Sunday from a quadriceps injury.

The Eagles practiced indoors Monday for the first time this summer because of the rain.
