Flyers captain Claude Giroux had two assists to help two-time defending champion Canada open the IIHF World Hockey Championship with a 4-1 victory Friday over the Czech Republic in Paris.

Midway through the first period, Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas dropped Giroux with a punch to the chin.

So much for NHL loyalty.

"That's expected; that's the way he plays," a smiling Giroux told reporters after the game. "During the season, I'm glad he's on my team."

Ryan O'Reilly, Mike Matheson, Tyson Barrie, and Jeff Skinner scored for Canada.

Giroux is Canada's captain, while Flyers right winger Jake Voracek is captain of the Czechs.
